How To Colorize The Vintage Botanical Illustrations
Do you love the free vintage botanical art printables but feel like adding color to your home? Below is a step-by-step tutorial on editing these black and white prints to color in the Adobe Lightroom mobile app (it’s free too!).
Begin by downloading the Adobe Lightroom mobile app (available for iPhone and Android) on your phone or tablet. After downloading the printable, screenshot the illustration you’d like to colorize to make the PDF a single JPEG. Then upload the image into the Lightroom app.
Next, select “Color” on the bottom navigation and play around with the tint, temperature, and color mixing until you’ve edited the illustration to your desired hue.
To save your image, select the export icon in your top right navigation, select “Export to Camera Roll” to save onto your phone for printing at home or at your local printing service.
Learn More About Botanical Illustration…
My mom who (is an amazing artist!) has been studying botanical illustration for the past couple of years. The careful work that goes into each of her pieces is truly so admirable, she has opened my eyes to the very big, scientific botanical illustration world. I hope one day to introduce you to her work, a small part of that world! If your curiosity is peaked and you’d like to briefly educate yourself on the history of botanical illustration, I found an interesting article here.
