Whether you’re someone who decorates in early November or waits until December, this card design will have you crafting for the holidays in no time. Inspired by classic holiday decor, the card features an illustration of a lush greenery and ribbon garland draped over a staircase railing, setting a festive scene.

The “Merry Christmas” text is optional and customizable in Cricut Design Space—I’ll walk you through how to add or change it below in Step 2. Feel free to personalize it with “Happy Holidays,” “Deck the Halls,” or any phrase that fits your style and needs.
The arch-shaped card base is adapted from the Gilded Stork Bespoke Card and Envelopes bundle, and I’m including it for free with today’s CACS design.
I originally planned for a black staircase but ended up using brown from leftover scraps. Feel free to choose any colors you prefer for your own card and get creative using up cardstock scraps!

Step 1: Set Up in Cricut Design Space
- Download and Upload: Once you’ve received the Day 1 email, download the design and upload it to your Cricut Design Space Canvas.
- Adjust the Score Line: In the layers panel, select the vertical line and change it from a cut line to a score line under the operations panel. Then, attach it to the card base by selecting both the base and the score line, and clicking “Attach” at the bottom of the layers panel.
Step 2: Adding Custom Text
- Add “Merry Christmas” (or customize): I used the free handwriting font “Merlot” from the free fonts within Design Space. Edit the text to your liking, and change it from the pen tool to the gold foiling tool in the operations panel.
- Using Free Fonts: For more on using free fonts, check out the blog post The Ultimate List of Free Cricut Fonts in Design Space here. This guide has step-by-step visuals (no Cricut Access subscription needed).
Follow the prompts in Design Space for scoring, foiling, and cutting.
Assembly Instructions
Step 3: Layering the Design
Attach the Staircase: Using your preferred adhesive, adhere the staircase element to the bottom left of your card base.
Add Stair Steps: Layer the stair steps above the staircase base.
Create the Garland Base: Arrange the larger greenery pieces in a swooping arch under the staircase.
Add Depth with Small Greenery: Layer smaller greenery pieces over the garland base to add texture and depth.
Assemble the Garland Bows:
First, attach the bottom bow layer using foam tape for a 3D effect.
Then, glue on the inner bow piece.
Finish with the center tie.
Optional Embellishment: Add sequins to resemble holiday ornaments along the garland. Let the card fully dry before handling.
