This DIY modern Christmas wall hanging is not your Grandma’s wall hanging (cute and festive as it is!).
I love holiday decor that works with your home decor and not against it! This DIY modern Christmas wall hanging combines natural textures with a modern typeface (a free Google font titled “Plaster”). The final result is a beautiful piece of wall art you’ll debate not stashing away with the other holiday decor come the new year!

How to Make A Christmas Wall Hanging
For this wall hanging, I took a cheap canvas drawstring bag from the dollar store and cut away the sides and bottom seams, leaving the topstitched seam for the drawstring. I then removed the string and replaced it with a wooden dowel.
If you’re also in Canada, I found the canvas bag in the Christmas aisle at Dollarama.
Next, to make the stencil, use your Cricut cutting machine to cut the free SVG design from sticky-backed contact paper or vinyl. This creates a stencil that can be stuck onto the canvas and allows for cleanly painted lines.
I was able to create this bronze paint color by mixing a touch of red acrylic paint into some gold acrylic paint.
Lastly, I finished the wall hanging off by tying on some naturally hand-dyed ribbon from The Maple Den (this ribbon is truly luxurious!) and a few mini Christmas ornaments.
